We all knew the sequel was coming but who thought it would be thrown into 3D? PopCap Games, now a division of Electronic Arts, have announced that Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will launch in spring 2014 exclusively first on Xbox One with additional formats to follow.
Powered by the advanced Frostbite 3 engine, Garden Warfare promises to retain all of the quirky humour, depth and accessibility fans expect from a Plants vs. Zombies game now brought into a massive, three-dimensional world, blooming with colour and combat. Brian Lindley, Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare Producer at PopCap says:
Taking cues from the likes of Orcs Must Die! and the class system of Team Fortress, players are able to side with either plants or zombies in an impressive 24-player battle mode set over 10 unique maps. They’ll also have the option to tackle the campaign co-operatively with up to 4 friends using new powerful plants with hundreds of unique items and customisations on offer.
said Jon David, Plants vs. Zombies Executive Producer at PopCap.
With the recent release of Plants vs. Zombies Adventures, the mid-July arrival of Plants vs. Zombies 2 and now with Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare for next-generation platforms and PC, are we at a risk of overkill?
