Lately, I’ve been turned off by first person shooters. The Call of Duty franchise being one of them (I can only assume by now, there is an irate group of gamers ready to set my house on fire for that statement) however, after seeing Nordic Games, Painkiller Hell & Damnation in action, a wave of nostalgia brought me back to the days of playing games such as Quake and DOOM with a group of old friends.
After doing some in depth research on Painkiller Hell & Damnation, I am very drawn to the title. Not only does the nostalgia aspect catch my attention, but the simplicity of it as well. If it moves, kill it. No puzzles, no complex convoluted story line, just an old school FPS.
The new DLC, Zombie Bunker, puts Daniel Garner in a militaristic world, where America, Russia and Germany have joined forces to create a powerful demon army. I guess everyone buried the hatchet after the whole World War II thing.
This is Painkiller’s second DLC releases today on Steam, the first was The Clock Strikes Meat Night and was released earlier this month. This new DLC; new Zombie Bunker comes with; not only a new single player map, The Bunker, but a new multiplayer map, DM Fragenstein. New features to the map Stalingrad have been added as well, now including airstrikes, Zeppelin firebombs and airborne zombie troops. How’s that for your “modern warfare”?
Other features include:
- Area 51 and Cold War with the refurbished, “Military Base”, including Space Commandos and UFO boss fights. And what warfare wouldn’t be complete without nuclear missiles!
- Two new rocket launchers. Who doesn’t like more explosions?
- The Moregenstern. Impale your foes with its close ranged spiky ball, or make some nice chunky bits out of them with its sticky bombs.
- New Armor Regeneration Tarot card. Recharges your current collected armor. Sure to come in handy when the going gets tough.

The new maps will immerse players in a truly demonic military world.”
So the Painkiller Hell & Damnation: Zombie Bunker DLC sounds good and all. But how does this fair for me, a gamer who does not possess a powerful PC to play such a game?
Well, I have some good news for console owners! Painkiller Hell & Damnation will be released for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 on May 31st. The campaign features an all-action crusade that can be played in single player mode, co-operative mode across four chapters, and several multiplayer-modes.
For you PC users, Painkillers DLC can be downloaded from Steam.
