When I originally saw the new Dante, I was mortified, as a long fan of the original Dante. It even took me a while to accept Nero from Devil May Cry 4. As I begun seeing more and more of the game, I got more and more annoyed, how dare Ninja Theory replace the original Dante with this runty emo kid. Now going into this demo I tried to keep my mind clear, and I am exceptionally glad I did. This is Devil may Cry on steroids.

Devil May Cry PreviewThis an utter reboot of the series, where even Dantes birth has been changed. Whereas in previous games it was accepted that he was the spawn of Sparda and a human, this has been changed to Sparda and an Angel. This is completely immersed in the gameplay, as Dante now gets some angel powers as well as his original demon powers. You can now use demon powers to grab an enemy and drag him towards you, or use your angel powers to grab an enemy and shoot towards them. Also using the powers will alter your weapons, so when you’re using demon powers, your sword Rebellion gets turned into a massive axe, and when using angel powers it turns into a scythe. This is an effective way to build up your combo meter.

Another really good inclusion to the game is the fact that the environment changes as you’re running through the levels. It adds more excitement and variance to the levels and makes the game seem like it is reacting to all your movements.

However apart from the inclusion of the angel side of Dante, this is all classic Devil May Cry. It has all the same fighting, bosses, crazy, foul-mouthed gameplay from all the previous games. True Dante seems a bit more angry this time round, but it works with his new image. There is absolutely nothing for Devil May Cry fans to be concerned about. This is all classic DMC.

Overall this is a game that i’ve actually become quite excited about, even though I did have my earlier reservations about the game. These are all now gone and this has become one of my must-buys for next year. The game is released Jan 15th.
