Turtle Beach Systems, more commonly referred to as Turtle Beach, are one of the gaming industry’s giants. However, this isn’t because they make consoles, or even games to go on the consoles; they specialise in bringing the best and most affordable accessories in the sound section of gaming. They sell a wide-range of products in this department, including earphones, microphones, sound cards, processors and headsets across all platforms of gaming.
One of these headsets is the Ear Force P11, which are exclusive to the PS3 and have a sleek and slim look to them. They are coloured to match the Playstation console (black and red), this style is consistent across the headset with the exception of the company logo. The headset is designed to be lightweight and relatively small, allowing for a less bulky and more comfortable feel on the head. It is said to fit all head sizes due to an adjustable headpiece, which varies massively in size, accommodating any head size or shape.
Matching the rest of the Turtle Beach line, the headset is made from plastic, however this does not give the headset a cheap look or feel. It is fitted with comfortable cushioned ear cups which fit around the ear. Also, there is an exterior microphone which can be pulled down and up quickly and easily at any time of play, which can be shaped in any position or angle the user wishes.
The headset offers a vast-range of features available to its users, giving a comfortable and enjoyable experience for any gamer at any time, whether the session lasts thirty minutes, or three hours. One of the best aspects of the headset is that is cancels out sound brilliantly, allowing for greater player immersion. It is also beneficial for people who aren’t playing and don’t want to be disturbed, as it leaks barely any sound and is unlikely to bother any one else in the vicinity.
You are also able to turn adjust voices and gameplay sounds via a volume control box, which holds two wheels for each, also giving a button to mute your microphone at any time. Another helpful feature the headset offers, is the ability to hear your own voice when speaking. This isn’t an annoyance, as the echo is soft and not nearly loud enough to disrupt gameplay, being just loud enough to let you know how loud or quiet you are to other players.
The device is compatible with both Playstation 3 and PC, via both USB Port and 3.5mm audio jack. This is a great way to ensure no user is confused when setting up the headset, as they merely have to plug in two ends, one to the display and another to the PS3 / PC.
From a personal perspective, the Ear Force P11′s are possibly the best piece of gaming gear I own, they amplify all sounds in-game, whether it is as minor as a player reloading or as major as a grenade exploding on the battlefield. They are extremely useful when playing any shooters, as they exaggerate all sounds giving you a great advantage against the opposing teams. However this is not their only selling point, they’re also great for immersing a player in the story and setting of a game. For example, ambience and music in RPGs, fantasies and story-based games are heightened. This gives an all-round better experience in a majority of games.
The price for any Turtle Beach product is based upon the quality of the item. In my opinion, Turtle Beach Systems are one of the highest quality headset distributors in the market right now, however this doesn’t stop them from selling their products at affordable and fair prices. The price for the Ear Force P11 headset is around £40 / $60. I feel that is reasonable. This and most other Turtle Beach headsets can be found on many online stores and usually in-stores of shops specialising in gaming. Or, check out the official website!
