After a lackluster launch of the anticipated title, “The Secret World,” Funcom has confirmed reports that layoffs are in the works at the studio.
Some reports put the layoffs at 50%-60% of the studio’s development team. While the official word is, ”We’re in the middle of the process and we can not go into more detail now,” said Erling Ellingsen, communications manager for Funcom.
There are no plans to make The Secret World a free-to-play title at this time. Is this a sign that subscription based games are becoming a relic of the past? Or just miss-management on the part of the developer? Only time will tell.
