The Evil Within, a new survival horror title from legendary games designer Shinji Mikami has just been announced. If you are unfamiliar with the name, he’s just the one that practically created the Resident Evil series. No biggie.
To accompany the announcement, Tango Gameworks have released a live-action teaser trailer that reveals little detail about the actual game. Aside from a terrifying multi-limbed beast girl-thing and a man with a metal box on his head. It basically looks pretty darn freaky.
The game hopes to reconnect players with the origins of survival-horror, moving the genre away from the action-orientated shooters, they have become today.
In the words of Shinji Mikami,
In an extended first look on IGN, he also emphasized how the key to survival horror is the balance of these two elements. A balance he did brilliantly in Resident Evil 4.
He rounded off the interview by simply stating, “if players say ‘I haven’t played a game this scary in a while’ that would make me the happiest”.
Judging by his past works and the tantalising teaser trailer, The Evil Within could be the game horror fans have been craving for all these years. Mixing psychological horror with some classic chainsaw wielding villains, this is definitely one to watch over the coming months.
Published by Bethesda, The Evil Within is slated for a 2014 release for Xbox 360, PS3, PC and unspecified next-gen platforms.
