Seasonal games are always a bit hit and miss, they are fun during that season or holiday but once it’s over they always take a back-seat until the next time the season rolls around. Christmas Carnage is going to be along the same lines, seeing as the game is just a count-down to Christmas and you get to play a bullet hell style game as extra.
Bullet Hell games are personally one of my favourite and most hated genres, as I love their styling but they are so incredibly frustrating. It has the standard power-ups such as Rapid Fire, Lasers, Rockets and Smart Bombs to help you out throughout the game. These are especially more useful during the harder difficulties of the game, as the harder the game is, the more relentlessly the enemies come at you.
One thing that I did enjoy was that you could have up to four players playing the game at the same time. It’s really good to see local co-op make a re-appearance in games as for the most part, multi-player in games has become purely online with very little local.
The most annoying part about the game was the music playing in the start up screen and throughout the game. I know the score has to be “christmassy” but it would have been better if it wasn’t just the one song on repeat. It kept on making me want to put the game down as it was so infuriating.
Overall the game is OK. It’s not a brilliant game, but if you have some spare time over Christmas and are on a budget, you could do a lot worse than Christmas Carnage. It is a nice little change to the majority of games that are out there.
