Now if that isn’t a top sales pitch then I don’t know what is. Bethesda Softworks have just released another batch of viciously brutal screenshots for their upcoming “kick-Nazi’s-in-the-balls ‘em up” Wolfenstein: The New Order headed for current and next-generation consoles later this year.
Set during an alternate 1960 where the Third Reich not only won the war but also enslaved the rest of humanity through their vastly advanced weaponry and awkward romantic sitcoms, series regular B.J. Blazkowicz once again returns to take on the spiteful Nazi hordes which include everything from armoured foot soldiers to enormous mechanical beasts. Unlike previous instalments of the popular franchise, this reboot is set to take place all over an occupied Europe, brought to life in new stunning detail thanks to id Software’s impressive id Tech 5 engine.
With a distinct blend of past concepts merged with futuristic technologies, these screens give hint to some of the ferocious enemies players will face and grand locations featured throughout the game which is rumoured to be a single player only experience at the time of writing. After the success of solo tiles like BioShock and Half-Life, is this a resurgence in a much sought after trend or are future games simply cowering under the online avalanche of the annual Call of Duty releases?
More details to come soon, check out the images below and let us know what you’d like to see in a return to the depths of Wolfenstien!
