It has been announced that The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is available from August 23rd, 2013 in the UK. From the makers of BioShock 2, 2K Games and 2K Marin have announced that their third person tactical shooter and latest edition to the XCOM series, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, will be coming to shelves on August 20th in North America and August 23rd in the UK and internationally on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC.
After the huge success of Firaxis Games astounding turn-based strategy XCOM: Enemy Unknown, The Bureau plans to deliver a whole new experience within the XCOM universe. In The Bureau: XCOM Declassified you play as special agent William Carter. You will call the shots and pull the trigger, leading your squad of agents through the origin story of the XCOM organisation’s first encounter with an unknown and powerful enemy in the high-stakes secret war for the planets safety. As well as fighting this mysterious enemy, The Bureau must cover-up the enemies existence to prevent worldwide panic.
The President of 2K, Christoph Hartmann said “We’re thrilled about 2K Marin’s refined vision for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified“, “The game has evolved through a creative and iterative development process, and the result is a narrative-driven experience that is smart, engaging, and challenges players to think tactically.”
said creative director at 2K Marin, Morgan Gray.
Keeping with the XCOM franchise, The Bureau’s combat design requires players to think and act tactically as every command can mean the difference between surviving and death for Carter, his squad or the human race. With the game being playing in third-person it gives the player more spatial awareness and is able to switch in and out of Carter’s unique Battle Focus ability seamlessly giving the tactical shooting action an extra edge.
“The team has been working hard to leverage core XCOM elements like tactical decision-making and permanent death of squad mates in a purposeful way that makes this a unique tactical shooter,” added Gray. “To that end, The Bureau will challenge players unlike any other third-person tactical shooter.”
The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is now available to pre-order at participating retailers for £39.99 on Xbox 360 and PS3 and £29.99 on Windows PC. Also from pre-ordering the game you will receive the Codebreakers side-mission as a bonus.
I honestly can’t wait to get my hands on this game. It had me hooked when it was just a rumour, before the strategy game XCOM: Enemy Unknown was such a big hit.
